- What is Concrete Jungle AR?Concrete Jungle AR is an immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experience that transforms the public plazas of Times Square | New York City into a digital safari. Visitors can explore 5 distinct animal worlds live only in Times Square through the free mobile app, Concrete Jungle AR TimesSquare. Watch animals roam and play in their natural habitats against the concrete of NYC and the digital signage and buildings of Times Square in the live environment.
- Where is the Concrete Jungle?Concrete Jungle AR is an IRL (in real life) app-based experience available throughout August 2022. The digital safari comes to life on the public plazas of Times Square located between 43rd and 47th Streets along Broadway and 7th Avenue, through the mobile app. See the visit section of the website for more information.
- When can I visit the Concrete Jungle?The Concrete Jungle AR experience is available at all hours day and night, 7 days a week throughout August 2022.
- How can I download the app?The app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store under the app name “Concrete Jungle AR TimesSquare” and is available to download throughout the month of August 2022.
- Are there minimum requirements for my phone or tablet to use the app?The app runs on iOS, iPadOS and Android. The minimum requirements are listed below but note that newer devices with the latest operating system versions will function best.

USING THE APP
- What is a viewing zone?There are five (5) areas in Times Square that are designated viewing zones. Each zone has a different animal world experience: Insects, Reptiles, Birds, Jungle, and Savanna.
- I am in Times Square. How do I find the viewing zones?When you open the app, you will be prompted to click the button “Start Adventure”. After clicking, you will be prompted to point your phone at the OneTimes Square building until the red light turns green. Once it turns green, you will see a map of Times Square where you can select the zone you want to visit. Once you have selected a zone, a compass (wayfinder) will appear on your phone that will point you in the direction of the zone you selected. Follow the green arrow on the compass. The viewing zones are along the public plazas of Times Square on Broadway and 7th Avenue from 43rd to 47th Streets. Look for Concrete Jungle display stands on the plazas that will mark the location of each viewing zone. Remember to always be aware of your surroundings!
- How will I know that I have arrived at the correct zone?There will be Concrete Jungle AR signage at each of the viewing zones. When you arrive at the zone, the app will prompt you to click the “Play” button.
- Do I need to physically move from zone-to-zone?Yes, you will walk from one zone to another if you would like to participate in each of the five AR experiences.
APP EXPERIENCE
- I am in the Zone, now what?When you arrive at the zone, open the app and allow the camera to scan the buildings around you. Point the camera towards One Times Square, the home to the New Year’s Eve Ball, located on 43rd Street. Once you are in view, the AR experience will start. Marvel at supersized animals and watch them roam and play in their natural habitats while in Times Square. After the AR experience, you will be prompted to play games and solve 3D puzzles. Don’t forget to take AR selfies from the menu selection.
- Can I take pictures?While watching the animals in their natural habitats or playing a game or solving a puzzle, you can tap on the “screenshot” button at the bottom right of the screen to take photos which will be stored on your phone’s native photo gallery. From there, you can share with friends and family. Be sure to tag @onetimessquare and #concretejungleAR on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for a chance to have your photo appear on the billboard at One Times Square!
- What is an AR Selfie?In addition to taking screenshots, you can also take selfies of yourself posing with a variety of 3D AR animals. Like screenshots, selfies are also stored in your native photo gallery.
